Man Utd will ‘submit formal offer’ to sign 25yo on one condition, ‘already informed’ entourage

If Ronald Araujo decides to leave Barcelona this summer, Manchester United is ready to submit a formal bid to sign him, Sport reports.

The Uruguayan international’s deal with the Catalan giants is still valid for another two years. The administration is eager to extend his term by an additional year.

Due to their financial limitations, the Blaugrana are unable to offer a “top-level” compensation. This summer, there are clubs prepared to pay Araujo twice as much.

Although Araujo had declined United’s offer to sign a new deal in 2022, Sport (page 2) reports that the Red Devils are still interested in signing him.

The player’s entourage has been “already informed” by United that if they are willing to let him go during the upcoming transfer window, they would “submit a formal offer.”

Araujo is being pursued by more than just the Red Devils; before the start of the season, Bayern Munich looked into the possibilities of signing the Uruguayan defender.

The German team knows that Joshua Kimmich has long been a target for Barcelona. Bayern is willing to talk about his departure, provided that Araujo goes the other way.

Araujo’s likelihood of joining United hinges on the cost.

Raphael Varane is expected to leave United on a free transfer at this time.

The Frenchman is among their top paid employees, and as of right now, the management has chosen not to activate an extension provision to keep him on for an additional year.

When the World Cup winner’s contract ends at the end of June, he may leave the team unless he agrees to take a significant pay reduction from his £340,000 weekly income.

Araujo’s outstanding ball-playing abilities make him a great substitute. In addition, he enjoys clearing his lines and excels at aerial difficulties.

According to Transfermarkt, the center defender is presently worth £60 million, but it has been said that the Blaugrana are looking to allow his departure for close to £80 million.

The Red Devils probably won’t be able to afford to spend so much money on the 25-year-old after missing out on Champions League qualifying the following season.

Bayern’s presence may be the other issue. Barcelona could be better off with a Kimmich trade, since manager Xavi is in dire need of a top defensive midfield player.

Therefore, it could be challenging for United to complete a summer deal for Araujo. Under the current administration headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the club is unlikely to pay more than the going rate.
