Man Utd in pole position to sign £100m star as ETH targets major replacement

Football Insider reports that Manchester United is “pole position” to buy Everton center-back Jarrad Branthwaite before the summer transfer window opens.

The England u21 international is thought to be one of Erik Ten Hag’s long-term priorities, along with his recruitment team.

The source for Football Insider claims that as the Red Devils get ready to make a bid for the center-back at the end of the season, they are “leading the race” to sign the 21-year-old, who is also being pursued by a number of Premier League teams.

Despite the defender’s October contract renewal at Goodison Park, United is expected to make a move for Branthwaite as a replacement because they plan to let Raphael Varane leave the team for free in the summer.

Man United will need to be ready to pay a significant amount of money in order to reach an agreement with Branthwaite, who has a contract with Everton that expires in June 2027. The Toffees have placed a £100 million price tag on him.

Stability in defence

With a decisive 3-0 victory over West Ham, the Red Devils moved up to sixth place in the standings. Even though the scoreline might indicate a straightforward victory, West Ham was still able to generate several opportunities and probably would have scored a few goals on another day.

Man United’s defence has been a bit of a problem this season. This season, they have already given up 52 goals in all competitions, therefore United desperately needs defensive solidity.

Due to a knee ligament injury he sustained over the weekend, Lisandro Martinez will be sidelined for eight weeks, leaving Erik ten Hag without a reliable backup.

The leaders of Manchester United are currently trying to find a solution for the summer, and Branthwaite has been mentioned as a top choice to take Varane’s spot.

Branthwaite has made 26 appearances for Everton this season in all competitions, making him a constant presence. If they can pull it happen, he might prove to be a great addition as he is becoming a top-tier defence and gaining a lot of experience in the top division.
