Roy Keane drops biggest compliment to date on ‘intelligent’ Man Utd star, says he can reach the ‘very top’

Following Kobbie Mainoo’s incredible return to the starting lineup for Manchester United, Sky Sports commentator Roy Keane has paid the ultimate tribute to the player.

Following an injury he sustained during the preseason trip last summer, Kobbie Mainoo was unable to play in the first game of Manchester United’s current campaign.

But following his injured return, the 18-year-old midfielder from Stockport made his Premier League debut and looked good in the 3-0 victory over Everton.

After disclosing the ideal player he would love to play with, Mainoo has stayed in the starting lineup and garnered positive reviews for his contribution to United’s midfield.

In the 4-2 FA Cup quarterfinal victory over Newport County on the road last month, the United star scored his first goal for the senior squad.

Mainoo, who talked about how he got to play for United, was a standout player for the Red Devils in their exciting 4-3 victory over Wolves on the road last week.

At the Molineux, Mainoo’s goal in injury time gave United the victory, and the England Under-19 international scored his first Premier League goal.

Keane’s glowing remarks about Mainoo

Sunday’s 3-0 victory over West Ham by Manchester United at Old Trafford included Kobbie Mainoo from the outset, and the young player delivered yet another strong showing.

After making an impression at United this season, Mainoo has garnered a lot of acclaim; Rio Ferdinand even went so far as to compare the Red Devil to a legendary member of AC Milan.

Roy Keane complimented Mainoo on his ability and called the United youth system product a “smart” player in remarks made prior to the West Ham encounter.

The legend of United continued by saying that while Keane thinks Mainoo may reach the “very top,” the experienced players will need to ensure that the young man “learns.”

He remarked on Sky Sports, “He’s a smart, intelligent footballer and he can go right to the very top.”

“We’ve already seen that he has the composure, but the senior players will need to keep him grounded and ensure that he learns.”

“He can manoeuvre around the pitch defensively, but there’s no denying the kid has a chance.”

Gary Neville on Mainoo’s current success at United

Gary Neville brought up the point that if Mainoo hadn’t been hurt, Sofyan Amrabat—who was signed by Old Trafford on loan from Fiorentina—wouldn’t have shown up.

Mainoo is a “real star,” according to the Sky Sports commentator, who also stated that he has “proven” his ability and “temperament” to play in important games for United.

Neville stated, “To be fair to Ten Hag, I asked them if they needed another central midfielder during the summer transfer window.”

“Amrabat was associated with them at the time, but they have stated that they would not have brought anyone in if Mainoo had not been hurt.

Amrabat entered the picture because he did fall, but Mainoo had faith from the beginning.

“He’s a real star who has already shown that he possesses the talent and temperament to play in these big matches.”
