Ollie Watkins, a striker for Aston Villa, is being signed by Premier League teams Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
Mario Melchiot, a former Chelsea defender and a huge fan of Watkins’ skills, believes that the Premier League’s main teams need to be vying to recruit the England international.
This season, Watkins has now tallied 10 assists and 15 goals across all competitions. He has been the driving force behind Unai Emery’s Aston Villa team’s success and their push for a top-four league finish.
Rasmus Hojlund, a bright youth signed by Manchester United in the summer, is a good addition, but given his slow start, the Danish international might be best served by Watkins, an experienced Premier League player.
Melchiot exclusively told Ladbrokes Fanzone that he would think it would be a no-brainer to sign Watkins for any of those three teams, even if he praised Watkins for being a bit of a late bloomer at this level.
Ollie Watkins would be my first choice if I had to move any Aston Villa player from their squad to Chelsea’s squad because I want goals, Melchiot stated.
It’s possible that elite clubs passed him over in the past because of the preoccupation with acquiring players who can contribute right away, but Watkins takes some time to establish himself.
But if you were to ask any three elite Premier League teams—Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester United—what they all urgently need, the response would be the same: a striker. a creator of goals. Ollie Watkins could be just that as well.
