Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United now “agree terms” over exit for “spectacular” player

Although Manchester United hasn’t added any new players this month, Erik ten Hag’s team has at least done a decent job of sending players on loan out to reduce the size of the roster. Donny van de Beek has signed with Eintracht Frankfurt, Jadon Sancho has rejoined Borussia Dortmund, and Hannibal Mejbri has joined Sevilla.

Ten Hag could have some thoughts on the matter, but as the last days of the January transfer window approach, United is ready to let go of another player in an effort to lower the payroll.

United come to a consensus over Pellistri

Man Utd has now decided to loan Facundo Pellistri to La Liga team Granada, according to Fabrizio Romano. Nevertheless, Ten Hag’s “green light” is necessary for the deal to proceed.

As they await the manager’s decision, both clubs as well as the player are currently on alert. If he responds positively, Pellistri should be able to sign his contract and get a medical clearance very swiftly.

Lending to “Spectacular” Pellistri would be advantageous

In 2020, United paid £9 million to acquire Pellistri from Penarol. Shortly after, the player was placed on loan to Alaves, where he played for 18 months, making 35 appearances overall (11 starts in the league).

He played in ten games last season, four of which were in the Premier League, after being eventually included into United’s first team roster. During his team’s journey to Carabao Cup triumph, the Uruguayan recorded his first assist in a 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic. He also made his debut in the Europa League round of 16 second leg against Real Betis.

Even though he started the 4-3 Champions League group stage loss to Bayern Munich on the first matchday and made his Premier League debut in the 4-0 home loss to Crystal Palace in late September, his status hasn’t improved significantly this year. He has made eight appearances off the bench in the Premier League, which is tied for the most in the United team’s history, as you can see below.

Pellistri was included in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Newport County, but he is now free to leave. Pellistri assisted Bruno Fernandes’ winning goal against Fulham in November. He might face fellow countryman and Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo if he decides to make a comeback to La Liga; Araujo has referred to him as a “spectacular” player.

The 2022-born winger’s 18 caps for Uruguay demonstrate his talent and prove that United should continue to support his growth. However, it seems like a loan relocation would be in everyone’s best interests for the time being.
