One of the strikers Manchester United is reportedly interested in is the Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian, better known by his nickname “Messinho.”
According to today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo (news image below), Man Utd is among the several European powerhouses making serious bids to entice the 16-year-old playmaker.
Although they are having financial issues, Barcelona is desperate to recruit the young star from Palmeiras, according to the Catalan media site.
Teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Paris Saint-Germain, the French champions, are “bidding hard” to get Messinho in an attempt to capitalise on the circumstances at the Nou Camp.
Like the Argentine superstar, Messi is the young player’s football idol, and he too wants to play for Barcelona.
According to MD, the Blaugrana’s “delicate economic situation” is the main reason they haven’t been able to finalise his contract.
The Spanish source stated that Barca cannot pay the £52 million (60 million euros) release clause in Messinho’s current contract with the South American team.
The winger has mostly played for the Palmeiras Youth squad and has only made one appearance for the senior club thus far.
He participated in five Brazil U-17 FIFA World Cup matches in November of last year, scoring three goals and dishing out as many assists.
He scored twice for the U-20 Palmeiras team in the Copinha against Queimadense on Friday, the first game of the new season.
Barca knows Messinho wants to join them and is still hopeful of signing him. Do you think Manchester United should use the £52 million clause to grab his signing?
