Manchester United is still interested in acquiring Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona.
Manager Erik ten Hag has insisted on the 26-year-old Dutch international’s arrival for the upcoming campaign, according to a report from Fichajes.
The former Ajax midfielder was purchased by Barcelona for an estimated €85 million, and should they be forced to sell him at the end of the current campaign, they will try to recover the majority of that cost.
Last summer, Manchester United was also interested in signing the player, but the deal fell through.
It’s evident that Ten Hag is still keen to sign the midfield player, but it’s unclear if Manchester United will be able to complete the transaction this time around.
As to the report, Manchester United is ready to make a high bid to get the star.
With their Champions League status, the Red Devils intend to regularly contend for major titles. De Jong is the kind of player they should prove to be an amazing acquisition.
Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat were among the players Manchester United acquired earlier this summer. De Jong, a technically skilled controller, might be signed to complete their midfield.
With Ajax and Barcelona, the 26-year-old has shown his mettle. He is unquestionably talented enough to thrive in the Premier League as well, and he has the potential to completely change Manchester United.
Whether the midfield player is prepared for a fresh experience in the Premier League next season is still up in the air.
