As Erik ten Hag attempts to bolster his squad, Manchester United is reportedly mulling a surprise move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
As the summer transfer window draws to a close, activity at Old Trafford is anticipated to pick up.
Ten Hag is still looking to expand his options in the middle of the pitch, and the club is reportedly now contemplating a trade for Hojbjerg.
Man Utd had been interested in signing Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina all summer long, but the two clubs have not yet reached an agreement.
Man United are looking at other options because they don’t want to put all of their eggs in one basket because they are facing competition for Amrabat’s signing.
Hojbjerg is reportedly a player of interest for Manchester United, according to The Telegraph, with Tottenham ‘ready to transfer’ the midfielder this summer.
Earlier in the transfer season, Atletico Madrid and Tottenham had an agreement on a £30 million transfer, but the deal fell through when personal conditions couldn’t be reached.
The Danish midfielder has only started once under Ange Postecoglou despite making two substitute appearances this year.
Hojbjerg has been a reliable player for Tottenham, and Ten Hag’s team would benefit greatly from his inclusion.
This season, Man Utd’s midfield has drawn criticism, and it is obvious that Casemiro needs some competition in that position.
Along with Hojbjerg, Manchester United is still debating a move for Ryan Gravenberch of Bayern Munich. Even Scott McTominay’s involvement in a potential trade has been discussed.
While signing Gravenberch for Man Utd would be great, he is a totally different player than someone like Hojbjerg.
While Gravenberch performs best in a more advanced position, the Tottenham midfielder is thought of as a defensive-minded midfielder.
The Dutch midfielder was labelled as a more attack-minded player by Thomas Tuchel.
“I see him in an attacking position,” Tuchel said to the media. “He was highly effective and always had influence when he came on as a substitute in preseason games.
However, there is a lot of competition. I observe his advantages when dribbling and under siege from opponents. I’m delighted with how he’s developing. He will get his chance if he is persistent.
At this point, Hojbjerg might be a better fit for Man Utd’s requirements than Gravenberch, though time will tell whether they can reach an agreement with Tottenham.
