“Understand..” – Sky Sports reporter claims player could be about to join Man Utd as ‘verbal’ deal reached

According to a Sky Sports reporter, Manchester United and Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos have reached a “verbal agreement” over a transfer to Old Trafford.

In light of the fact that Dean Henderson is anticipated to leave the team this summer, United is looking for a backup custodian to Andre Onana.

Although Nottingham Forest has acquired Matt Turner from Arsenal as their starting custodian, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are also interested in the England international.

Zion Suzuki, a goalkeeper from Japan, turned down a move to Old Trafford in favour of a loan to Belgian Pro League team Sint-Truiden despite United’s interest in him.

Additionally, the club has finished pre-medical exams on Fenerbahce shot-stopper Altay Bayindir, The Athletic reported on Tuesday. A €5 million contract, though, is reportedly contingent on Henderson leaving this summer.

It now seems like United is focusing on something else.

Man Utd and the custodian “reach verbal agreement”

Reporter Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports Germany tweeted: “Understand that Odysseas Vlachodimos has received an offer from Man Utd.

“Until 2028, he might sign a deal. Estimated price: about €15 million. Altay Bayindir is also running for the position, so Ten Hag wants him but hasn’t made up her mind.

“Vlachodimos would be willing to take Onana on.”

Vlachodimos, a Greek international player who was born in Germany, played five years at Benfica.

The 29-year-old has more than 200 appearances for the dominant Portuguese club across all competitions, but manager Roger Schmidt benched him for their Liga Portugal match against Estoril last weekend.

Record in Portugal claims that Vlachodimos and Schmidt had a “heated discussion” that resulted in Vlachodimos being benched for the match in Estoril. The Greece custodian allegedly wants to leave the team this summer as a result.

Dean Henderson and Radek Vitek were the backup goalkeepers for United last Saturday when they faced Tottenham.

Tom Heaton is still a member of the team, but he is currently healing from an injury he sustained in training prior to the season’s opening weekend.
