Deal close – £42.7m player now moving to sign for Man United

If media claims are to be believed, Manchester United is close to acquiring Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice.

Before the summer transfer window closes, the Red Devils must strengthen their backline, and it is anticipated that the young French international will join them at Old Trafford.

L’Equipe reports that the 23-year-old defender’s transfer to Manchester United from the Ligue 1 team is about to take place.

According to the reputable media site, Nice is already preparing for the departure of their central defender to the 20-time English champions.

Harry Maguire, the former captain of Manchester United, is still confined to Old Trafford despite the two clubs having an agreement on a price to sell him for.

He is currently Erik ten Hag’s fourth-choice central defender, therefore United needs to sign Jean-Clair Todibo quickly. By doing this, the former Leicester City player will fall further down the pecking order and may eventually decide to depart.

He would risk losing his spot on the Three Lions roster for the European Championships by sticking with the Red Devils and warming the bench.

During the previous season, Todibo played for Nice in 33 league games and contributed to the team’s 10 clean sheets.

The former Barcelona centre defender was not even on the team for the most recent Ligue 1 match against FC Lorient because of an uncertain future.

He is worth about £42.7 million (50 million euros) and has more than three years left on his deal.
