Ten Hag could sign a Hojlund alternative with Man Utd swoop for “frightening” £13m gem

Erik ten Hag, the head coach of Manchester United, has received support thus far during the summer transfer window as the team has added three key players.

This summer, who has Manchester United signed?

For a rumoured sum of £55 million, Mason Mount arrived through the door from Premier League rivals Chelsea to enhance the manager’s midfield options.

In a £47.2 million agreement with Champions League champions Inter, the Red Devils acquired Andre Onana as David de Gea’s replacement.

Rasmus Hojlund was acquired by Ten Hag from Atalanta for an initial £64 million, with an option to increase that amount to £72 million, strengthening his forward line.

They might return to the market to add another number nine because they have been linked to Santos attacker Marcos Leonardo, who is rumoured to be worth €15 million (£13 million).

Marcos Leonardo’s talent level?

The Brazilian teenager is a fantastic prospect, and his performance for his present team over the past 18 months indicates that he could develop into a dangerous goal scorer for United in the future.

Hojlund, who scored nine goals in 20 starts for the Serie A giants last season and has six goals in six games for his nation, has already been signed by Ten Hag to lead the line for the Premier League giants.

However, the injury to the Denmark international forced Marcus Rashford, who usually plays on the left flank, to start through the middle for the opening-day match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

A replacement for Hojlund, such as Leonardo, would provide the Dutch tactician a choice; this would prevent him from needing to move Rashford or anybody else from their preferred places to fill a void.

The 20-year-old hotshot has 31 appearances for Santos in all competitions, contributing 15 goals and four assists.

This comes after the gifted ace scored 21 goals and provided six assists in 57 games the previous season.

Thus, since the beginning of 2022, Leonardo has contributed to 46 goals directly in 88 games, or an average of one goal per 1.91 games.

The only United player who was involved in a goal more than once every two games on average last season was Rashford, who had one every 1.59 Premier League games.

This means that Leonardo, whose “frightening” speed was described by U23 scout Antonio Manga, has the potential to be a great alternative for Ten Hag at the top of the pitch if he can carry over his form from Brazil to England this season.

The £13 million finisher, who is only 20 years old, would be a long-term addition rather than a temporary remedy, and he may develop over time to become an even stronger player for the team.

This might make him a comparable acquisition to Hojlund, who is the same age, giving United two good number nine alternatives to compete with over the years to come, ending the necessity for wingers or midfielders to fill in.
