In the summer of 2018, Fred moved to United from the Ukrainian team Shakhtar Donetsk for a reported £52 million, and he has since made 213 appearances for the team.

He scored 14 goals while playing for Old Trafford, and his final game was an exhibition victory over Lyon in Edinburgh early in the preseason. According to BBC Sport, a contract for €15 million has been reached, with €10 million paid upfront and €5 million in future add-ons.

The midfielder played 56 times for United last season under Erik ten Hag, including six goals in the Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle United at Wembley. He also helped United finish third, which guaranteed them a spot in the Champions League this coming season. Despite participating in 56 games last season, Fred only started 12 league games for United, and he has previously expressed dissatisfaction with his limited position.

In May, Fred commented, “In terms of my own performance, I believe I’ve played well, although I wish I’d had more time on the pitch.” “Whenever I was on the pitch, I believe I performed to the level required of me to support the team’s success.”
