Manchester United is presently concentrating on outgoings, but once sufficient funds have been obtained through player sales, additional additions as requested by the manager are in the works.
United had already accepted West Ham’s offer for Harry Maguire and agreed to sell Fred to Fenerbahce.
The England international has not yet agreed to the deal, thus neither party has yet discussed the personal conditions.
United has identified Todibo as a potential Maguire successor.
According to Fabrizio Romano, United won’t let their former captain leave until they’ve decided on a replacement.
Benjamin Pavard’s name has been relentlessly promoted by the media lately, with the Bayern Munich player reportedly thrilled about the idea of playing at Old Trafford.
However, earlier rumours had indicated that Ten Hag planned to replace the former United captain with Jean-Clair Todibo.
Sport Witness reports that the Red Devils are “actively moving” for the OGC Nice defender. Nice-Matin also claims this.
The 23-year-old will benefit from United’s strategy by joining the French national team for the Euros. After a streak of strong performances for the Ligue 1 team, he was called up earlier this year, but he was unable to even make the bench.
Numerous clubs reportedly contacted the player’s representation considering a summer transfer, but Ten Hag apparently made the biggest impact on the former Barcelona star.
Call between Todibo and ETH already happened
Ten Hag allegedly called up the center-back in July and attempted to convince him of the benefits of joining a “prestigious club” like United, and the player’s “attention” was “captured” by his speech.
A deal might be reached in the “last two weeks of the transfer window,” according to the Dutch manager, who is “targeting the center-back” to replace Maguire.
It is unclear whether United will be able to pay Nice’s “nothing less than €40m” asking price for Todibo given that Ten Hag also wants a new midfielder, a flexible forward, and a custodian.
Along with Pavard, Edmund Tapsoba, and Perr Schuurs, United has several candidates for Maguire’s replacement on their list.
