Ten Hag could land Hojlund’s perfect partner in Man United swoop for £40m “star boy”

Erik ten Hag, who previously coached the Cameroonian custodian at Ajax, is set to add another familiar face to Old Trafford now that Manchester United has finalised a deal for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.

The South American pair had supported the 53-year-old in winning the league championship during the 2021/22 season, and the Dutch strategist famously came to Amsterdam last summer to purchase them from the Eredivisie team.

The former Utrecht manager appears to favour signing players that he has had direct contact with; earlier in the summer, speculations suggested that the seasoned manager was considering a move for Mohammed Kudus, another Ajax star.

What is Kudus’s market value?

The Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal are considering a move for the former Nordsjaelland star, so if United are to recruit the Ghanaian hotshot this summer, they will have competition from their Premier League rivals.

The article states that the 5’9″ phenomenon, who has two years left on his contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena and has spent the last three years there, might command a fee of about £40 million if he were to leave this summer.

While the Red Devils’ top goal right now looks to be the acquisition of a new number nine after reaching an agreement on personal terms with Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta, there have been rumours that Ten Hag may also be itching for another attacking addition before the start of the next year.

Kudus has scored how many goals?

The 24-cap ace, who showed his talent last season during what was a true breakout performance for his current team, may represent a tremendously beneficial and versatile signing for Ten Hag and company as a player who can operate through the middle, on the right wing, or in a playmaking role.

The in-demand ace just erupted last season, contributing 18 goals and seven assists in 42 games in all competitions, after scoring just six goals and dishing out just one assist in 25 games under Ten Hag during the 2021/22 campaign.

Kudus now has 23 goals and 11 assists to his name in 84 games for Ajax after previously tallying 14 goals in 57 contests for his former employers. That outstanding haul included four goals in only six Champions League matches.

If the aforementioned Hojlund moves to Old Trafford this summer, the addition of the slick shooter may assist to relieve some of the strain on him because the tall Dane, who scored nine league goals in Italy this season, will likely be expected to carry the load offensively for the team in 2019.

As Kudus’ impressive assist total also suggests, he could offer quality support to the 20-year-old in the final third. Meanwhile, the left-footed “star boy” — as praised by teammate Calvin Bassey — has the desire to join his center-forward in attack at any opportunity, as demonstrated by the fact that he ranks in the top 4% of his peers in the Men’s next eight competitions for touches in the attacking penalty area.

Hojlund and Ten Hag’s former Ajax asset might then turn out to be the ideal young partnership that thrives at the Theatre of Dreams for years to come.
