According to Gazzetta dello Sport (page 16), Manchester United will have to fork over nearly €60 million to acquire Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund this summer.
Andre Onana, who is currently playing for Inter Milan, is about to join the Red Devils. They have agreed to pay the former Ajax custodian an initial €50 million.
The club hierarchy will concentrate on finding a new center-forward after Hojlund joins, and manager Erik ten Hag has made it abundantly clear that Hojlund is his top choice.
According to recent reports, Atalanta are not under any pressure to part with their prized asset, and United will need to offer them close to €60 million in order to convince them to think about doing so.
El Bilal Traore of Almeria, who could replace him, and the Serie A team have reached an agreement regarding personal terms, but the La Liga team won’t sell him for a low price.
Almeria allegedly wants €40m to part ways with the Mali international, according to previous reports.
Hojlund has the potential to develop into a top-tier striker. Earlier this summer, United was heavily linked with a move for Harry Kane, but Spurs made it clear that they won’t talk to a direct Premier League rival.
United’s focus has now shifted to Hojlund as a result of this. The 2022–23 Danish club season was successful. For Sturm Graz and Atalanta, he made 16 goals and seven assists.
Atalanta contributed to 14 of those goals. He started playing for the Serie A team in late August, but he didn’t start every game until the new year.
Although his statistics weren’t particularly impressive, he has a tonne of potential. Last term, we caught glimpses of it.
The 20-year-old is blessed with good speed on the counterattack and possesses a strong aerial and physical presence. Additionally, he can see well from the opponent’s box.
Hojlund, a left-footed striker, has been compared to Erling Haaland because of the way he plays. We think he has the potential to develop into a strong goal scorer.
He needs to join United as soon as possible so that he can participate in the preseason. If not, the Dane might need more time to adjust, just like he did while playing for Atlanta.
Hojlund has already expressed his desire to join United, so hopefully the deal can be closed soon.
The Glazers recently provided Ten Hag with additional funding to recruit a new striker.
