Rasmus Hojlund’s Atalanta team reportedly turned down an offer from Manchester United for the forward in exchange for cash and a player, according to reports.
Rasmus Hojlund is being acquired by Man United.
Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils appear to be looking to add to their roster after securing a transfer for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.
However, it’s estimated that United will have about £100 million to spend this summer. As a result, player sales may be necessary at Old Trafford, and up to 13 players might leave the team in the upcoming months.
Following David de Gea’s departure, Andre Onana is a top custodian target, and it is reported that a verbal agreement is in place with the Champions League ahead of a trade worth approximately £47 million.
The international from Cameroon has already agreed to personal terms with the Red Devils, and rumours have stated that Hojlund, the international from Denmark who revealed earlier this year that he is a “huge” Red Devils supporter, has also struck a deal with United.
“Since you’ve asked, I won’t deny that I’m a passionate Manchester United supporter.
“So, personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other major clubs if the offers come at some point.”
The Red Devils’ offer to Atalanta for the forward now seems to have solidified their interest. The Athletic claims that during negotiations with the Serie A club, Manchester United offered players in addition to cash for Hojlund. However, the club rejected the offer because they only wanted cash and valued the player at £85.5 million, which United believed to be an expensive price.
According to the report, Fred and Donny van de Beek, two midfielders who missed the first preseason match against Leeds United on Wednesday, could have been offered.
Rasmus Hojlund: How excellent is he?
Hojlund, who is only 20 years old, made an impact in his first season with Atalanta, and as a result, his Transfermarkt valuation skyrocketed to a career-high €45 million.
In 34 appearances last season, he assisted on 14 goals, and Erling Haaland of Manchester City was even mentioned in comparisons to him. Journalist Sacha Pisani regarded Hojlund as “scary quick,” and Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini noted the forward’s speed and called his technical ability “remarkable.”
“Hojlund has a remarkable technical quality as well as a spirit, energy, and intensity.”
He still has a tonne of room to grow, too. He is so swift that even without exerting any effort, he completes the 100 metres in under 11 seconds. He can move his legs quite quickly and has a low centre of gravity for his height. He only keeps getting stronger every day, so I have no doubt that he will have a successful career.
Hojlund is a true center-forward who seems to be getting better all the time. He may be exactly what the attack needs in the short and long terms, but a transfer may be difficult because Atalanta is holding out for cash.
