According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United and Inter have reached an agreement on a final price for keeper Andre Onana, and the deal is expected to be finalised very soon.

Do United intend to sign Onana?
Onana’s transfer to Old Trafford seems to be close to completion after threatening to drag on well into the transfer window.

The Red Devils had to act quickly to sign Onana after David de Gea’s official departure to make sure they had a first-choice custodian before the start of the new Premier League season in a little under a month.

Onana has always been eager to join United, so the main challenge has been coming to an agreement on a price with Inter, who have been adamant about how much they value the custodian.

Romano claims that the two clubs have finally reached an agreement on a price of €50 million plus €5 million in add-ons and are finalising the structure and specifics of those performance-related bonuses.

Romano said in a video posted to his YouTube channel: “I told you for days that Thursday is going to be a crucial day for the Andre Onana deal, and it is, it was, a crucial day because in conversations between Manchester United and Inter, the final verbal offer from Man United was made: €50m (£43m) guaranteed fee plus €5m (£4m) in add-ons.

“Manchester United and Inter are currently talking about the add-ons’ structure. How to activate these add-ons, whether they are simple or complex, and the transaction will be finished.

The deal is very close to being finalised and is thought to be imminent. Let’s see if it happens at night or on a Friday. Although we are still awaiting the story’s conclusion, “here we go” is anticipated soon.

Given that Inter had previously rejected several bids, this will likely come as a relief to United supporters who may have been concerned the deal would eventually fall through due to financial difficulties.

One of Onana’s greatest strengths—being able to better execute instructions with the ball at his feet—will please Erik ten Hag. The custodian is looking forward to a reunion with the Dutch coach after their time together at Ajax.

Onana played a significant role on the Inter team that made the Champions League final and won the Coppa Italia last year. The 27-year-old played in 41 games across all competitions, giving up just 36 goals and recording 19 shutouts.

Who is United acquiring?
The Red Devils must concentrate on reviving the other areas of the team since Onana will soon join recent acquisition Mason Mount at Old Trafford.

Given that Anthony Martial is the only number nine the team currently has and that Marcus Rashford is more at home on the left side, Ten Hag is still in a desperate search for a new centre forward this summer.

Numerous rumours have been made about United’s hunt for a striker, with links to Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta being the most well-known. According to reports, Man United already offered a deal that included both players and cash, but La Dea quickly rejected it because they valued the player at an astounding £85.5 million.
