Man United eyeing up move for “influential” £51m star, just imagine him with Mount

A fresh update on a potential transfer target has surfaced as Manchester United continues to develop their roster for success.

What has changed about Manchester United’s interest in Marcos Llorente?

Man United is reportedly interested in signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Marcos Llorente this summer, according to reports from Spain.

It is said that a 60 million (£51 million) offer would be sufficient for the Serie A star’s club to split ways with their player. The Red Devils will contend with fierce Premier League rivals Liverpool for the Serie A star’s signature ahead of next season.

Is Marcos Llorente any good?

With Mason Mount’s transfer from Chelsea, Erik ten Hag has already begun to bolster the midfield’s quality depth ahead of the upcoming campaign. This summer, he may add another talent by hiring Llorente.

With Llorente making numerous appearances in the central, defensive, and attacking midfield positions as well as excelling in the right-back role, the versatile whiz can offer the Red Devils a diverse skill set and experience in a number of positions. This could make him an incredibly valuable asset to Ten Hag next season.

Talented midfielders Gavi, Khephren Thuram, and Sandro Tonali have all been cited as being the most equivalent to Llorente over the past 12 months, proving that the Spaniard has a strong work ethic and the capacity to have an impact in both offensive and defensive circumstances.

According to FBref, Llorente, who was dubbed “influential” by former Atletico teammate Luis Suarez, ranks in the top 25% for shot-creating actions and the top 10% of his positional peers across the top five European leagues for progressive carries, touches, and passes received.

There is no denying that Mount is a significant acquisition for the Red Devils, but in order for him to fully realise his potential at Old Trafford, he will need to find his best position on the pitch and adopt a more disciplined role. Llorente’s acquisition could provide an opportunity to further render England’s star unplayable.

Llorente, who used to be Casemiro’s backup at Real Madrid, outperformed Mount in pass completion (81.2% v. 76.4%), clearances per 90 (1.03 v. 0.47) and interceptions per 90 (0.89 v. 0.52), showing that he could be relied upon more in the deeper role alongside Casemiro.

Although it is not yet known what precise position Mount will play in the heart of the field next season, having a dedicated colleague who can not just collect the ball to advance play but also give the England star solid attacking opportunities would be quite helpful.

If Llorente can assist Mount replicate his greatest season at Chelsea, when he contributed to 29 goals across all competitions in 2021–2022, it may be a game-changing opportunity for the Red Devils.

After considering that, it is clear that Llorente would be a fantastic addition to Man United this summer.
