“Deal absolutely on” – Fabrizio Romano shares Man Utd news on move for “superstar” after Mount

Fabrizio Romano reports that despite the rejection of Manchester United’s £39 million bid for Inter Milan custodian Andre Onana, a deal is still in place.

Onana is a new hire by Man United.

On Wednesday, the 24-year-old Mason Mount’s transfer from Chelsea was finalised, and the Red Devils made the announcement in writing.

With a deal that runs through 2028 and offers an additional year, Mount will don the renowned number seven shirt at Old Trafford. He is the first significant acquisition made this summer by Erik ten Hag, and it appears that focus is now shifting to finding a new custodian.

Since personal terms have already been agreed upon between United and the international from Cameroon, Onana appears to be the primary target. The Serie A club wants about €60 million for the shot-stopper, but like Mount, settling on a transfer fee appears to be proving difficult.

Nevertheless, in an effort to reach a deal, the Red Devils have offered less than that sum. Romano, who is eager to join Old Trafford, posted on Twitter on Wednesday to disclose Man United’s offer of a £39 million deal.

“Understand A verbal offer of £39 million from Manchester United, including add-ons, was made for André Onana in the morning. The proposal will shortly be official.

Including add-ons, Inter anticipate paying €60 million for Onana. At this time, no agreement. To move, Onana is eager.

Later that day, Romano added that a bid had been turned down, but insisted that a deal was still “absolutely on.”

Negotiations for André Onana are still ongoing between Man United and Inter after a £34 million offer plus $5 million in add-ons was turned down. Completely on the table.

David de Gea left Manchester United, right?

Having lost David de Gea at the end of June, Old Trafford is in need of a new custodian. The future of the Spanish player, who is now an unsigned free agent, is uncertain. Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton are the only senior choices available to United at the moment, and Nottingham Forest is interested in hiring Henderson on a permanent basis.

Thus, it is understandable why Old Trafford would be interested in a player like Onana, who has been dubbed a “superstar” by the media. The Dutchman described the custodian as a “masterful custodian” during his 145 appearances as the custodian at Ajax, where he worked under Ten Hag, before the manager and player left for United and Inter, respectively, in the previous year.

He is clearly still below where he was before to the suspension. However, we can’t count on that from him. He will succeed if he puts in a lot of effort to reach there once more, in my opinion. His skill as a custodian has been demonstrated by everybody.

If a deal is finalised, Onana is likely to reclaim his spot as Ten Hag’s first choice, but if Henderson leaves and De Gea also finds a new team, Ten Hag may need to turn to a different custodian.

It may be a busy few weeks in the market for Ten Hag and the team responsible for hiring players for the club, since Yann Sommer of Bayern Munich has also been linked with a move to Manchester.
