Along with Andre Onana of Inter Milan, keeper Yann Sommer of Bayern Munich is apparently a target for Manchester United.
After David de Gea’s Old Trafford contract ended at the end of June, the Red Devils and Erik ten Hag are looking for a new custodian, with Onana appearing to be the top target.
According to reports, personal arrangements have already been decided upon between United and the Cameroon international, with only a fee left to be settled.
On Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano said the player is eager to transfer and the transaction is set; however, the Serie A club has rejected a £34 million bid plus $5 million in add-ons.
Despite the current takeover controversy, United is ramping up their summer activity after securing a move for Mason Mount. As a result, another custodian may be on the way to Manchester alongside Onana in the coming months.
On Wednesday, TEAMtalk presented an update on the Red Devils’ custodian search.
According to the report, Onana is Old Trafford’s top priority, and United is working to make a trade happen. But “the club are still keen on more options to back-up future number one Onana,” and Sommer remains their first pick.
Bayern Munich is said to be “open to a deal,” and United see Sommer as the perfect acquisition to strengthen bolter Ten Hag’s goalkeeping lineup. A fee would need to be agreed upon prior to the Switzerland international moving to Old Trafford because he has two years left on his present deal.

Yann Sommer: who is he?
Sommer, 34, started his career with Swiss club FC Basel before transferring to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014.
Before heading to Bayern Munich in January, the goalkeeper spent nine years with the Bundesliga team, appearing in 335 games across all competitions. Sommer has participated 25 times since joining Bayern, winning a Bundesliga champions medal on the final weekend.
As he nears the end of his career and has five choices to choose from for the upcoming season, including players like Manuel Neuer and Alexander Nubel, Sommer might be open to the thought of joining United in the Premier League.
If he were to relocate to Manchester, he would offer a wealth of expertise at the top level. Joe Scally, a defender for Monchengladbach, praised Sommer, an 83-cap international for Switzerland, calling him “the best in the world” and “unbelievable.”
“He is the best in the world. He carries out this action every single week. He performed the same thing against Bayern in our season opener from the previous year.
“Since we are aware that he is the finest goaltender, we simply expect it from him every game. He inspires such confidence in the team and the defence because we are certain that he would always be there to help us if anything goes wrong. He is truly unbelievable.
Onana and a transfer might be worth keeping an eye on. Should Sommer move in, he might try to fill in for Onana in domestic cup competitions while Onana might play a significant role in the Premier League and Champions League.
