Romano: ‘Valid’ Man Utd offer is on the table, player wants Old Trafford move ‘now’

Mason Mount of Chelsea is the midfielder Manchester United are most interested in signing this summer, but the Red Devils haven’t had much luck luring him to Old Trafford.

United is on the verge of giving up after having multiple offers for the 24-year-old rejected. Their most recent offer was for £50 million plus $5 million in add-ons. According to the BBC, Chelsea responded with £58 million plus £7 million in add-ons.

Man Utd was believed to have changed their target after turning down Chelsea’s demands. Fabrizio Romano claims that their most recent offer of £55 million is still valid and still on the table. Romano claims that Mount wants Man Utd to move ‘now’ or he’ll become a free agent in 12 months, but Chelsea aren’t moving just yet.

United is in need of a midfielder.
Erik ten Hag might require at least one player to move the other way because Donny Van der Beek doesn’t seem to have a future at United, Marcel Sabitzer didn’t make his loan move permanent, and Scott McTominay might be leaving this summer.

Since moving up through Chelsea’s youth ranks to the first team, Mount has made 195 appearances across all leagues, totaling 33 goals and 37 assists.

The future of the England international at Stamford Bridge is, however, in doubt because his current deal expires the following year and he hasn’t yet agreed to a new one.

Chelsea’s current situation is not good considering that they also finished in the bottom half of the Premier League last season. Although joining Man United this summer would be a better career move for Mount, he would be leaving his childhood club with a heavy heart.

Chelsea is updating its roster.
Mount might be one of many players leaving Chelsea this summer after the club spent more than £500 million on new players in the last two transfer windows.

As a result of N’Golo Kante’s impending move to Al Ittihad, Mateo Kovacic’s potential transfer to Manchester City, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s recent transfer rumours, Chelsea may be severely lacking in the engine room after Mount’s departure.

Enzo Fernandez, Denis Zakaria, and Conor Gallagher will still be at Mauricio Pochettino’s disposal, but he’s certain to put the potential Mount money towards a replacement.

The question of whether Chelsea will accept United’s offer, however, is still up in the air because of their obstinacy during talks.
