According to reports, Manchester United is eager to bring Juventus defender Gleison Bremer to the Premier League.
Does Gleison Bremer intend to leave Juventus?
The Brazilian international only moved to the Allianz Stadium from Torino last summer, but he made an impact in his first season, becoming Massimiliano Allegri’s third best player overall with a match rating of 6.92 on WhoScored.
The Serie A club, however, is in need of cash and will be looking to raise it by selling some of their most prized assets during the upcoming window, the centre-back being one of them, even though the 26-year-old still has four more years left on his contract.
When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge in 2021, Fantacalcio reported that the Red Devils were interested in the 6 foot 2 colossus. If the latest update is to be believed, Erik Ten Hag is reportedly preparing to make a second attempt to sign him.
Man Utd is acquiring Bremer?
Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) reports that Manchester United is “looking at” a possible summer swoop for Bremer. In the coming weeks and months, the Old Trafford team will be “thinking about” the defender and “particularly interested” in finalising a deal.
While a transfer “doesn’t seem obvious at this stage,” Old Trafford executives did watch him live in action last season, and Juventus will require an offer of at least €60 million (£51 million) in order to “carefully” consider a sale.
Under Ten Hag, where might Bremer fit in?
Ten Hag will need a replacement in central defence should Man United captain Harry Maguire leave, and given that Bremer has been referred to as a “animal” by Torino’s Mergim Vojvoda, he might be the ideal candidate.
According to WhoScored, the World Cup participant averaged 3.8 clearances and 2.6 aerial wins per Serie A game the previous season, making him a very reliable option in the middle of the backline. However, with five goal contributions (four goals and one assist), he also posed a threat in the final third.
Bremer, who is adaptable enough to play right back, also has the same agent as Raphael Varane, CAA Base Ltd. As a result, his agent will already have a connection to the club from when his other client joined, which could give the Red Devils an advantage in trying to close a deal this summer.
