Federico Chiesa, a winger for Juventus, is attracting interest from Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer season as Erik ten Hag looks to upgrade his attacking unit.
How is Federico Chiesa’s transfer to Manchester United going?
The Red Devils are interested in making a surprise bid for Chiesa, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via TEAMtalk). The player is seeking a transfer away from the Serie A team.
Given the Italian international’s form before his devastating knee injury in 2022, Juventus will likely accept offers around €35 million (£30 million). If Ten Hag can get the player back to his best, he may be able to secure a bargain.
Federico Chiesa might potentially help Manchester United.
The 25-year-old had demonstrated his offensive abilities from the left wing since joining Turin at the start of the 2020–2021 season with 18 goals and 14 assists. However, he missed the majority of 2022 due to injury.
Although his play hasn’t been quite as impressive since getting better, which is understandable, he still managed to score four goals and provide out six assists in 2022–2023. This is a respectable return, and a strong preseason will undoubtedly have him back to his best.
According to FBref, Chiesa is statistically equivalent to Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka, with the Englishman being the third-most comparable player to the Italian. Given that Saka has been on fire over the past few seasons, contributing 44 goals, it’s not a bad comparison to make.
The two have in fact posted comparable numbers this season in a number of attacking metrics, including shots per 90 (2.75 to 2.43), shot-creating actions per 90 (4.56 to 4.34), and goal-creating actions per 90 (0.79 to 0.63), demonstrating their knack for setting up goals for both themselves and others.
Chiesa and Saka share a similar style of play in that they frequently cut inside to create opportunities, and according to WhoScored, both players rank crossing and holding onto the ball as key strengths. If Ten Hag is considering making a bid for one of the players, this must be taken into consideration.

In addition to being praised as “incredible” by journalist Jack Gallagher, he also excelled on the international stage, helping Italy win their first European Championship in 53 years after defeating England at Wembley in 2021. With so much experience, a transfer to Old Trafford shouldn’t phase him at all.
Should he regain his prior form, the £30m move is a gamble that might be worth every penny.
