Man United “set to make” offer for £50m “mad player”, it could be bye-bye Van de Beek

An update has been made on Mason Mount, a Chelsea contract rebel, and Manchester United’s alleged interest in him.

What’s new with Mount and Manchester United?
The 24-year-old Englishman is “leaning towards” a transfer to Old Trafford with just one year remaining on his current contract, The Athletic’s David Ornstein recently revealed. According to James Ducker of the Telegraph, the Red Devils are preparing an offer valued in the neighbourhood of £50 million for the player.

“#MUFC ready to make £50m bid for Mason Mount,” Tweeted Ducker. “Name spelt right this time. Chelsea anticipated being more adamant. As his future at United remains uncertain, Fred is planned meetings with Ten Hag.

The reputable writer went on to say in the article he co-wrote for The Telegraph with colleague Jason Burt that there is “growing confidence” among people at United that a deal for the 36-cap ace can be agreed upon, despite the current value difference between themselves and the Blues.

Who may Mount succeed at Manchester United?
While Ducker mentioned the “uncertainty” surrounding Fred’s future at the Theatre of Dreams amid rumours that the Brazilian could be on his way to Fulham, it’s possible that Donny van de Beek will also be negatively impacted by Mount’s hiring. Both players are likely to fall further down the pecking order.

Van de Beek, like the Chelsea player, has often played an advanced playmaking role during his time at United, despite the fact that the Dutchman has only spent a dismal three seasons there due to his inability to establish himself as a regular in the team.

The 25-year-old was acquired from Ajax back in the summer of 2020, during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure at the club. Since then, he has started just 23 games in all competitions, scoring just twice and providing just two assists.

Despite the arrival of fellow countryman Erik ten Hag, the Netherlands international’s most recent season was particularly dismal as he made just ten appearances before going down with a season-ending injury in January. According to recent reports, the £40 million player may leave this summer.

Therefore, the addition of Mount might be the deciding factor in Van de Beek’s demise, as his fellow playmaker has established himself as a far more potent force in the Premier League, having surpassed double digits in both goals and assists in the top division during the 2021/22 season.

While the former Derby County loanee was unable to repeat that performance this time, he still contributed with three goals and six on all fronts, while Van de Beek was unable to contribute with even a single goal.

The inclusion of a “mad player” like Mount, who has been praised by club great Rio Ferdinand, might prove to be an undeniable improvement for Ten Hag, since journalist Samuel Luckhurst has previously stated that using the latter man just “doesn’t work.”

In light of this, Van de Beek may be saying goodbye if a deal to purchase the Three Lions jewel is successful.
