The most recent rumours about Uruguayan playmaker Manuel Ugarte, who plays for Sporting CP, are intriguing. Manchester United is connected to him.
According to today’s Correio da Manha (press image given below), the Red Devils, Chelsea, and French champions Paris Saint-Germain are all interested in signing the South American midfielder.
Apparently, Man Utd has made Ugarte from the Lions a wage offer in order to sign him. This was reported by a reputable Portuguese news source.
The 22-year-old midfielder is likely to depart the Liga Nos powerhouses in the summer and is presently weighing the offers from United, PSG, and the Blues.
Ugarte’s present contract expires in 2026, and his ability to depart will depend on whether the exit clause of 60 million euros (£51.5m) is satisfied.
The former Fenix defensive midfielder helped his old side retain 13 clean sheets during the just finished Primeira Liga season by starting 28 of the games.
He has played for the senior international team eight times thus far. Although he travelled to Qatar with the Uruguayan World Cup team, he did not play in any of the matches.
Man United definitely needs to strengthen their centre of the pitch, but Ten Hag hasn’t yet taken Pogba’s place as a creative central midfielder.
In terms of holding midfield, the 20-time English champions already have a world-class DM in Casemiro, who is indispensable in the starting lineup.
