Fabrizio Romano: Another in-house Man United agreement for “amazing” player is “really close”

David De Gea and Manchester United are close to agreeing on a new, long-term contract.

De Gea is close to confirming his future to the team, despite a Calciomercato report that suggested United were considering replacing him with Juventus custodian Wojciech Szczesny.

Has David De Gea’s contract status changed?

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Man United and De Gea are “really close” to agreeing on a new contract.

The agreement for De Gea is currently very close, he told GIVEMESPORT.

We already know that Man Utd wants to extend De Gea’s contract and bring in a new backup custodian.

“So, that’s the concept. De Gea is concerned with the minute aspects.

De Gea’s current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, but a new one appears to be in the works, meaning he will remain at Old Trafford. It is unknown if his present weekly salary of £375,000 would be increased.

How did De Gea do this year for United?

For recording the most clean sheets, the 32-year-old received the Premier League Golden Glove award. The second-placed Alisson Becker had three less clean sheets than his Manchester United counterpart, who had 17.

Harry Maguire recently praised his defensive teammate highly in a speech. He’s been fantastic this season, the Englishman stated. I consider the things I could say to him.

“David makes big saves at critical moments, and he has in the past. He comes up big and saves the day when we need him. He had a fantastic season, and I have no doubt that he will be really pleased of it.

Although De Gea has received accolades, there are still uncertainties about his long-term position in the Premier League.

No custodian in the Premier League has committed more errors leading to goals than the Spaniard’s four, which came to light after his horrendous error against West Ham that allowed Said Benrahma to score.

De Gea was outstanding for United this season despite everything. It’s tough to imagine a scenario in which Erik ten Hag and his team would have finished in the top four this season without his 17 shutouts.

Retaining De Gea’s services is a wise decision, especially given the more urgent issues the team must solve during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils can now save their money, and with a possible move to acquire Neymar, they’ll need every penny they can get their hands on.
