Ten Hag could finally bin Martial with Man Utd move for £40m gem who’s “fun to watch”

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, appears prepared to raid Ajax once more amid reports that the Dutchman is looking forward to a summertime reunion with Mohammed Kudus.

What has changed since Kudus joined Man United?

The Red Devils are apparently one of the teams keeping an eye on the Ghanaian international, according to journalist David Ornstein, who is writing in his weekly column for The Athletic. The 22-year-old is determined on leaving the Eredivisie side at the conclusion of the season.

The 23-cap wonder, who is also being pursued by Arsenal and Newcastle United, reportedly only recently turned down a new one-year contract extension. The player’s current contract is slated to expire in the summer of 2025.

As a result, the Amsterdam club may well approve a sale for the former Nordsjaelland star if he declines a renewal, with the article stating that a sum of about £40 million may be sufficient for teams like United to make a deal.

Who would Kudus be able to replace at Man United?

Ten Hag looks to be eager to team up with the 5’9″ revelation soon; according to a February story in the Manchester Evening News, the Dutchman thinks the agile forward has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League.

The 53-year-old has already managed to wrest Lisandro Martinez and Antony from his former employers last summer, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see him return to the Johan Cruyff Arena to sign Kudus, who has had an outstanding season so far.

The highly sought-after dynamo has scored 18 goals and contributed six assists in 42 games this season on all fronts, proving to be a vital asset because to his versatility in playing as a playmaker, on the wings, or as a centre forward.

The young player’s attacking versatility may make him the ideal Anthony Martial successor in the forward line, since the injury-prone player, who has missed 27 games this season, appears destined to leave Old Trafford before the start of the following campaign.

The veteran Frenchman has played in 27 games across all competitions this season but has only scored eight goals and contributed three assists. He has also scored only twice in his last ten league games, which highlights his inconsistent play.

The Ajax player’s superior creative ability would be one of the main advantages of signing Kudus in his place. According to FBref, he has averaged 3.38 progressive passes and 3.38 progressive carries per 90 over the past 365 days, while Martial has only averaged 2.97 and 1.66 for those same two metrics, respectively.

The Ghanaian international, who Dutch legend Marco van Basten called “fun to watch,” also appears to have a strong work ethic as he averaged 1.27 tackles per 90 minutes, compared to the current United player’s 0.44.

After nearly eight years in Manchester, Martial’s time there appears to be up. Ten Hag may decide to use the quick-footed Kudus this summer to put an end to the striker’s Man United career.
