Man United frontrunners to sign £70m Kane alternative, he could be the “next Benzema”

Manager Erik ten Hag is apparently looking to bolster his center-forward lineup this summer, and Manchester United is supposedly leading the race to recruit Goncalo Ramos of Benfica.

What’s new with Ramos going to Manchester United?

The Red Devils are reported to be “at the top” of the list of suitors for the 21-year-old, with the young striker drawing interest from a number of Premier League clubs, according to Portuguese publication Record – via Sports Witness.

Even though he still has three years left on his current contract, the Portuguese international is said to be increasingly likely to depart the Lisbon team at the end of the season.

Football Insider earlier asserted that a deal could be reached for a fee of about £70 million if United were to wrest the seven-cap diamond from the Estadio da Luz this summer.

Goncalo Ramos should Man United sign him?

The focus of much of the current discussion centres on the Old Trafford team’s rumoured interest in Harry Kane as a solution to their center-forward problems, even though the Carabao Cup champions appear hesitant of entering into drawn-out negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur chairman, Daniel Levy.

In Ramos, Ten Hag and company may discover a more cost-effective and younger option given that Kane, who will turn 30 in July, is rumoured to have an asking price of approximately £100 million.

After scoring 26 goals and dishing out 12 assists in 45 games across all competitions thus far this season, the latter player has more than justified the interest in his services. He also made headlines in December when he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland at the World Cup.

The 6 foot 1 ace, who is obviously in great shape, has even been dubbed the “next [Karim] Benzema” by former youth coach Joao Fonseca. He is expected to have a significant impact on the game in the years to come.

This comparison comes amid rumours that Ramos may also be of interest to Real Madrid, Benzema’s current team, with the La Liga giants seeing him as a potential replacement for the seasoned legend.

The Benfica player has demonstrated this season that he can be a creative and clinical danger while leading the line, and the seasoned Frenchman has done the same with a total of 29 goals and six assists this season on all fronts.

Ramos has averaged 6.54 touches in the attacking penalty area per 90 over the past 365 days, while Benzema has averaged just a little bit more at 7.31 touches per 90 for the same metric, suggesting that the two players appear to come alive in the opposing 18-yard box.

The five-time Champions League winner, who has also won the Ballon d’Or last year, is surely a spectacular name to be compared to the Madrid sensation, who also serves as a genuine focus point thanks to his 6 foot 1 size.

Ramos becoming United’s apparent successor to the 35-year-old is undoubtedly an interesting possibility.
