Man United now enter race for “exceptional” defender, his club are “willing to sell”

Vanderson may be the answer to Manchester United’s defender search, according to reports from Spain via Sport Witness that the Red Devils are eager to sign the player this summer.

What has changed regarding Vanderson and Manchester United?
The Red Devils, who are fourth in the Premier League right now, will be hoping to hold onto that position and qualify for the Champions League in the upcoming season.

If so, manager Erik Ten Hag will need to make sure his team has a lot of depth so they can consistently compete both at home and in Europe. As was previously reported, the Red Devils are willing to allow the manager to add another defender to his backline this summer. Harry Maguire’s potential departure, which would free up money and space, and Real Madrid’s interest in Diogo Dalot could make United even more in need of a right-back.

The Premier League team is now prepared to make an approach for Vanderson in order to increase their summer right-sided options. Sport Witness cites Spanish media outlets as saying that the club is vying with Barcelona for the services of the Monaco player.

This report claims that the 21-year-old’s current team is “willing to sell,” which is another advantage in their pursuit of him. Ten Hag’s team only needs to defeat Barcelona’s opposition in order to land his signature.

Do Man United need to acquire Vanderson?
The former Porto player Dalot has been a standout performer at Old Trafford this season, giving the Red Devils an already talented option at right-back. For instance, the 24-year-old has a 6.97 rating on WhoScored this season, placing him among the top five United’s players in terms of performance.

Vanderson, however, might be a suitable replacement or even a very good depth option if Madrid were to steal the player. The 21-year-old has similarly stood out for Monaco in Ligue 1 this season, earning a score of 6.94 on WhoScored and finishing among his team’s top five performers.

The right-back is also a younger option than Dalot, and he has demonstrated his excellent defensive skills at a high level with an average of 2.6 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game (the joint-best rate at the club). He has also been dubbed “exceptional” by manager Phillipe Clement, who praised his “adaptation” to the league and added that he is a “huge perfectionist”.

If Man United decides to sign Vanderson during the transfer window, it would be a real steal because the player has already made an impression in Ligue 1.
