This summer, according to a report from transfer expert Dean Jones, Manchester United might beat Liverpool to the signing of Brighton star Alexis MacAllister.

Leaving this summer, Mac Allister?
The 24-year-old’s future is a hot topic right now, as a result of the interest he has generated thanks to his performances for the Seagulls. He is currently having a fantastic season, scoring nine goals in the Premier League and also experiencing World Cup triumph with Argentina.

As his last-second penalty at the Amex Stadium separated the two teams on Thursday night, United got a close-up look at Mac Allister’s wrath. As they search for potential additions in the middle of the pitch this summer, the Red Devils have been linked with a move for the midfielder.

The Argentine could very well be playing at either Old Trafford or Anfield next season, but Liverpool is also very much in the mix at this point.

Could Mac Allister sign with Man United?
Given that a transfer to one of the two clubs appears likely, Jones suggested to Give Me Sport that United might be a better option for Mac Allister this summer than their rivals:

“If you look at United, they already have a cup win, they are in a cup final, and it appears that they will be in the Champions League. They are the group that currently has a little more to offer him. They’re also in the midst of a rebuild, which he can join right away.

The Brighton hero, who right now appears to be a complete midfielder, could be such a wise addition by United at the end of the season. He gives United’s midfield some much-needed life, especially with Bruno Fernandes turning 29 later this year and Casemiro and Christian Eriksen both in their 30s. He also defends well, averaging 2.1 tackles per game in the league this season.

As journalists praised him as “absolutely outstanding” during the World Cup, Sergio Aguero praised his compatriot as a “very intelligent” player. It all depends on whether Mac Allister has his heart set on a specific club because United appear poised to guarantee him Champions League eligibility next season, giving them a significant advantage over Liverpool. If not, he might be better off moving to Old Trafford.
