Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan is a striker who Manchester United is interested in acquiring during the summer transfer window, and Inter Milan is willing to sell.
Martinez, will you be leaving Inter?
The £184,000 per week attacker has been a crucial part of Inter’s success this season, contributing to their advancement to the Champions League semifinals. In 2022–2023, he scored 17 times in Serie A and twice in Europe. He also added six assists for good measure.
Martinez has excelled across all levels of competition, not just at the club level. The 25-year-old was a member of Argentina’s World Cup-winning team in Qatar, and despite the fact that he didn’t score during the tournament, he still contributed by successfully converting a penalty kick in the shootout victory over France.
Although the striker’s current contract with Inter doesn’t expire until the summer of 2026, it appears that they may be able to sell him this summer due to the likelihood that he will draw a lot of interest from across Europe. Before the start of the upcoming season, United will be in desperate need of an elite centre forward, so signing the Argentine could be a wise move.
Martinez could move on to Man United.
Football Insider claims that Inter are “willing to sell” Martinez to United in the summer in order to “raise funds” for new acquisitions. Given the uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham, the Red Devils see him as their top transfer target if they are unable to sign him.
Martinez would reportedly cost £70 million if United were to choose to purchase him, and “clubs throughout Europe have been alerted to the possibility of signing him.” According to Erik ten Hag, the South American is “perfect” for his high-intensity system.
If United can’t sign Kane, who has established himself in one of Europe’s top leagues for an extended period of time, the Inter attacker could be a really exciting option. Kane should still be seen as Ten Hag’s team’s top option.
With 32 assists, Martinez has demonstrated that he can also be a provider. Jacek Kulig, a football talent scout, has previously referred to Martinez as “unstoppable” due to his record of 95 goals in 228 games for Inter. It actually makes sense to choose him over Kane, who will turn 30 this summer, because at 25, United could sign him as his prime years begin.
