This summer, Manchester United reportedly plans to try to recruit one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets.
The transfer sum the England international is rumoured to demand caused Liverpool to withdraw from the competition to sign Jude Bellingham, it was revealed earlier this month.
Although the club has been connected to a number of players throughout Europe, Jurgen Klopp is still aiming to reenergize his midfield this summer.
According to the Athletic, Liverpool’s senior recruitment staff has been debating who would be available among the players they have been following and what price they would command in recent weeks.
A handful of the players rumoured to join the Anfield squad at the end of the season include Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch.
It is true that Liverpool and the latter’s father supposedly had “positive” discussions earlier this month. Gravenberch has made 28 appearances for Bayern Munich but has only had one start. He is reportedly open to the thought of joining Liverpool this summer.
United, one of Liverpool’s toughest rivals, could woo the player, though.
United States to Gravenberch
Gravenberch would be eager to collaborate with United manager Erik ten Hag, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.
According to the article, both the player and manager “would be happy to work together again.” The 20-year-old made his debut for Ajax’s first squad under Ten Hag.
Last week, Aouna stated that United had “already expressed” interest in Gravenberch and would be meeting with his representatives shortly.
It would be seen as payback if United signed Gravenberch before Liverpool following the latter’s appropriation of Cody Gakpo.
The Old Trafford club had been after Gakpo for months, but in a shocking turn of events, the Netherlands international ended up moving to Liverpool.

Prior to Liverpool hijacking Man Utd’s negotiations for the Dutch international in January, Man Utd was in talks to sign Gakpo.
The Dutch international chose to transfer to Bayern Munich for £16.3 million, despite the fact that Ten Hag planned to make Gravenberch one of his first signings at Old Trafford.
Manchester United is a very huge and magnificent club, according to Gravenberch at the time in an interview with De Telegraaf. But I already felt so good there, and I had already made a commitment.
