Huge blow for United as Madrid agree deal for €40m midfield star

Gabriel Veiga, a midfielder for Celta Vigo, is allegedly close to signing a contract with Real Madrid.

Manchester United and other elite European clubs are interested in the 20-year-old.

Veiga’s contract features a €40 million release clause, and it expires in 2026.

The player reportedly prefers a transfer to Madrid.

The La Liga powerhouses are searching for a replacement for their trio of Casemiro, Toni Kroos, and Luka Modric.

The presidents of the two Spanish clubs, Florentino Perez and Carlos Mourio, reportedly signed a deal, according to the Spanish publication Sport.

The release clause would be paid in installments by Madrid.

Veiga returned to Celta for a year on loan as part of the agreement.

In the summer, Erik ten Hag is eager to add another midfielder.

Christian Eriksen and Casemiro have been added, but United’s midfield still lacks technical proficiency.

Ten Hag’s strategy focuses on maintaining total control over the game.

Due to United’s new setup, which is geared towards more counter-attacking football, some players are flourishing while others are suffering.

United has to spend more money on more technical midfielders who are confident with the ball in their hands if they want to play with more consistency.

Veiga appears to be headed to Madrid, therefore United must consider other options.
