63% duels lost, just 24 touches: Man Utd reporter criticises 3/10 passenger against Brighton

In today’s FA Cup semifinal victory over Brighton & Hove Albion on penalties, Manchester United reporter Samuel Luckhurst criticised Anthony Martial.

Once more, Martial was given the go-ahead.
Martial kept his spot in the starting XI for his 21st appearance of the season despite Erik ten Hag making a number of changes to the team that fell to Sevilla on Thursday in the Europa League.

The 27-year-old, who was playing in just his second FA Cup game, was in the front of the queue, followed by Marcus Rashford, Antony and Bruno Fernandes.

Seven years after scoring the winning goal against Everton in the FA Cup semi-final, Luckhurst stated before the game that Martial needed to show up for the Red Devils.

The Manchester Evening News reporter, who was providing live updates for the game, criticised the striker, calling him a passenger at halftime and giving him a 4/10 rating before dropping it to 3/10 at the end of regulation.

What were Martial’s statistics?
According to SofaScore, Martial played 85 minutes before being replaced by Jadon Sancho, but had the fewest number of touches with the ball of any starter for the Red Devils—just 24.

The forward’s final match rating was 6.7/10, and he failed to register a shot on goal. His lone attempt failed to test Robert Sanchez. Martial failed to make an impact in the final third by giving up possession five times, losing 63% of his 16 duels, and trying to dribble once but failing.

Given that Martial is still working to regain his best form after dealing with a number of injuries this season, you could say that Luckhurst’s criticism of the attacker was justified.
