Time’s up: Ten Hag must now brutally ditch Man Utd’s £190k-p/w “walking disaster”

After yet another costly error for United, Ten Hag will need to part ways with Maguire this summer.

Manchester United’s 5-2 aggregate loss to Sevilla in the Europa League quarterfinal match served as the season’s apex. Erik ten Hag was obviously dissatisfied with the draw after the Old Trafford team had a 2-0 lead in the first leg only to concede two late goals and put the tie into the second leg.

A week later, the Red Devils lost to the La Liga team in just eight minutes, and even though they trailed by just one goal at the time, the home team’s additional two goals were enough to secure a victory in the end.

The first goal proved to be the turning point, as defender Harry Maguire made yet another costly error on his Man United resume by failing to correctly control and advance on a ball from David De Gea before being surrounded by Sevilla attackers.

Ten Hag must ruthlessly remove the Englishman from his first team for the remainder of the season with the goal of finally moving him on during the summer, as the FA Cup represents their best chance of winning this season.

Does Manchester United have a future for Harry Maguire?

With just 28 games played this season—the fewest in his four seasons with the club—Maguire has played the fewest matches since joining United in 2019, and it’s clear that the Dutchman isn’t the greatest fan.

The £190,000-per-week defender was atrocious in both games of the last eight match against Sevilla, averaging a Sofascore rating of just 6.2/10 and giving up possession 14 times in both games. Clearly, the club needs to make some changes if they want to consistently compete with Manchester City and Arsenal for Premier League supremacy.

Lisandro Martinez’s injury, which has kept him out for the rest of the season, may have a significant impact on how much hardware the team wins by the end of May.

With an average Sofascore rating of 7.12/10 in his first season at United, the Argentine has excelled, and Ten Hag is seeking to assemble a team around the former Ajax star. His inclusion in the starting XI has boosted United’s defence.

Maguire’s performance against Nottingham Forest last week was characterised as a “walking disaster” by journalist Samuel Luckhurst, and this perfectly captures his tenure with the team.

The Red Devils will have a fascinating summer as they aim to get rid of some deadwood and add a few more important signings that might reestablish them as one of the best teams in the nation.

When the season is over, where does Ten Hag go first? Maguire needs to move on once and for all.
