Ball lost 13 times: Manchester United reporter slams walking disaster against Nottingham Forest

When Manchester United defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday in the Premier League, writer Samuel Luckhurst criticized defender Harry Maguire.

In relation to Maguire, what did Luckhurst have to say?

For just the second time this year, Maguire preserved his spot in United’s Premier League starting lineup. Erik ten Hag was missing Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez because of injuries.

The 30-year-old was given a warning after only three minutes due to a collision with Taiwo Awoniyi, but he ultimately helped the visitors get three points with goals from Antony and Diogo Dalot in either half clinching the victory.

Luckhurst, the primary Manchester United journalist for The Manchester Evening News, offered in-game comments live on the website and wasn’t shy about criticizing Maguire in the first minutes.

He felt the home fans was making the center-back uneasy in the first half and regarded him as a walking disaster. Immediately after the ball touched Maguire’s arm in the box, Luckhurst commented that Maguire was really fortunate not to hand away a penalty.

What did Maguire’s statistics reveal?

Even though the Red Devils captain had a sluggish start to the match, statistically speaking, Maguire was the worst-rated United defender at City Ground. The England international had a final match rating of 7.1/10, which was somewhat below the average score of an away side player (7.23/10), according to SofaScore at the end of the game.

The center-back lost six of his twelve duels, surrendered the ball 13 times, and was only effective with one of his seven long balls. Maguire made more clearances and interceptions than any other United defender, so it wasn’t a terrible performance.

Due to the club’s ongoing injury issue, he may need to play a more regular role going ahead as well, so perhaps he’ll be able to put his first 20-minute performance in the past and focus on building on another clean sheet in the top division.
