Fabrizio Romano: ‘Phenomenal’ star ‘really keen’ on Man Utd summer move after talks held

Right-back Jeremie Frimpong of Bayer Leverkusen is “really keen” on moving to Manchester United, claims transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The highly rated Dutch full-back, who is having an outstanding 2022–23 season with Leverkusen, has been linked with a move to Manchester United as they want to strengthen their right-back positions.

Romano states in a piece for Caughtoffisde that “nothing is advanced yet” and that the player’s agency has spoken with representatives from other teams including Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are the team’s two primary right backs, according to Erik ten Hag. Romano reveals that although contract negotiations for Dalot are still ongoing, the Dutch manager is still eager to sign Frimpong.

While Football Insider reported that United are willing to meet Bayer’s asking price for the player, which is reportedly in the neighborhood of £50 million, Christian Falk recently asserted that the Red Devils have held discussions to sign the Dutch international.

probable transfer move

Frimpong is an excellent defender and gets along well with Ten Hag. Journalist Collin Millar called Frimpong’s statistics “phenomenal” in an article for The Mirror.

It is not surprising that Man Utd are willing to spend a lot of money for an attacking full-back who has managed eight goals and six assists in 26 games in the Bundesliga this season.

Since the Red Devils want to maintain Dalot, Ten Hag will probably let Wan-Bissaka depart the team at the end of the current campaign. Although the 25-year-old former Crystal Palace defender has performed admirably lately, Frimpong would be an improvement.

Since Wan-Bissala and Frimpong are two quite different types of players, it is unfair to compare the two. Wan-Bissaka is a traditional right-back who is excellent defensively but doesn’t contribute much offensively.

These days, full-backs are expected to score goals, dish out assists, and contribute vitality to overall inventiveness, and Frimpong matches that description. His career would take a great step forward with a move to Old Trafford, but other top European teams may also be interested in signing him.
