“Important news” – Fabrizio Romano shares exciting insight out of Man United after “meeting”

Prior to the summer transfer window, Manchester United met with Jeremie Frimpong’s agency, but the agent also had talks with other teams.

Does Manchester United require a new right-back?

After recently activating a one-year extension, it is thought that the Red Devils are looking to secure the future of their current right-back Diogo Dalot.

However, some major organizations, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, are rumored to be interested in the Portuguese defender.

Additionally, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s future is still up in the air despite the Englishman being persistently linked to a possible exit for some time.

As he appears to be entering the final year of his contract in the coming weeks, reports from earlier in the season suggested a return to Crystal Palace was an option.

United have been connected with the young Bayer Leverkusen player who is drawing interest from a number of teams amid the prospective openings at right-back.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano has given an insight into the recent meeting between United and his agency as well as the interest Bayern Munich and Barcelona have shown:

(2:40) We have important and unique information regarding Jeremie Frimpong thanks to his agent, Jeffrey Lemmert, who told Sky that he had a meeting with Manchester United. And we have proof that it really did happen. It was an assembly.

But Jeremie Frimpong is a guy I mentioned to you in October or November for Manchester United because they value him and have been keeping an eye on him for a while. As a result, they think highly of Jeremie Frimpong at Manchester United.

“But it’s also crucial to bring up Bayern [Munich] since, like Manchester United, both Barcelona and Bayern held talks with Jeremie Frimpong’s group. In the summer, Frimpong is anticipated to leave the club.

Would United make a wise choice in Frimpong?

The 22-year-old, who has displayed a lot of potential this season, will enter the summer with two years left on his contract with the Bundesliga team.

The Dutchman has made 26 appearances in the Bundesliga and has an astounding eight goals and five assists only in the league. (via Transfermarkt).

The 22-year-old’s attacking statistics place him among the top players in his position; for example, he is inside the top percentile for progressive carries, successful take ons, and touches in the opposition’s box. (via FBref).

The Dutchman was described as a “exciting talent” by Bundesliga reporter Stefan Bienkowski, and it is easy to understand why given that he is in the top 10 percentile for shot-creating actions across Europe. (via FBref).

Frimpong has been playing for Leverkusen mostly as a right wing-back this season, so all of this must be qualified.

And under Erik ten Hag, United has never used anything else than a back four. (via Transfermarkt).

This raises a lot of uncertainties about whether Ten Hag would consider changing his formation to include Frimpong or if Frimpong would be required to play as a more conventional right-back.

This might seriously reduce the 22-year-old’s ability to score goals and may also make his defense more scrutinized.

The Dutchman only ranks inside the 36th percentile for tackles per game this season, so his defensive statistics are not exactly stellar. (via FBref).
