According to Marlon Irlbacher of Sky Germany, Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen back Jeremie Frimpong are currently engaged in formal negotiations.
The Dutchman has been under the Red Devils’ radar all season, and Florian Plettenberg recently disclosed that the club has begun communication with his agent.
Irlbacher has provided a new update, stating that United are a “very interesting option” for the right-back, who could be lured away for about €40 million this summer.
In Arthur, Leverkusen have already secured his possible successor. The 20-year-old recently had his physical, and in July he will be joining from America MG.
Erik ten Hag would blend in just fine at Frimpong.
This season, the 22-year-old has featured for Leverkusen in both the right-back and right wing-back positions, and his performances have been incredibly impressive.
In 36 games, the Dutch player has eight goals and nine helpers. He has also made defensive contributions that have been successful.
In the Bundesliga, the former Celtic player has astonishingly won 6.7 duels and 1.7 clearances per game.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot, with one being more defensive and the other more offensive, provide the perfect balance, according to Ten Hag in his news conference today.
We believe Frimpong could be the ideal right-back for the boss because he can contribute to goals while also offering defensive assurance.
Ten Hag allegedly gave the transfer his approval, but United might want to let go of a right-back first.
Wan-Bissaka’s departure from the club this summer seems more probable now that Diogo Dalot is in advanced contract negotiations.
