‘Very positive’: Man Utd open talks to sign €35m star, Erik ten Hag admires him

The representative of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong has begun negotiations with Manchester United, claims renowned journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Right-back options for the Red Devils currently include Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, though the latter is set to be replaced by a new acquisition.

Since Frimpong has been on the club’s mind for a while, Plettenberg has now confirmed that talks have begun with his agent.

The first round of negotiations went “very well.” Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, is a fan of the Dutchman, who has contributed to 17 goals this year.

Dalot would be replaced by Frimpong.

Ten Hag enjoys collaborating with offensive full-backs. Next term, Frimpong would be a significant improvement over Dalot.

While manning the right back and right wing-back spots for Leverkusen, the 22-year-old has made an astounding eight goals and nine assists.

The Dutchman has done well defending despite playing aggressively. He has made an outstanding 1.7 tackles and 6.5 duels per league outing.

Although Leverkusen hasn’t set a price for the young defender, they don’t have much wiggle room because his contract is scheduled to expire in a few years.

He is presently valued by Transfermarkt at €35 million. For the former Manchester City pupil who might want to establish himself in the Premier League, this seems like a reasonable price.

Wan-Bissaka has been a reliable defensive contributor this season, but he appears to be Frimpong’s probable replacement. United and Dalot are in early contract negotiations.
