Man Utd should sign midfielder on a free transfer if Erik ten Hag axes Van de Beek

Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount, and Declan Rice all on Manchester United’s summer transfer wishlist as they search for a central midfielder.

The Manchester Evening News’ Daniel Murphy, however, advises them to approach Youri Tielemans.

The 25-year-old moved to Leicester City from AS Monaco in 2019 and has since made 187 appearances across all leagues, contributing to 25 assists and 28 goals.

Tielemans’ future at King Power Stadium is in doubt because there are no plans to extend his contract when it expires in 2023.

He may leave Leicester for free, and United ought to position themselves to recruit him since he would strengthen their midfield.

Erik ten Hag needs to reduce the fat as well as add players who can compete on all fronts in the upcoming season.

Ten Hag needs to reduce the amount of central midfielders in the United first team squad, which includes Casemiro, Fred, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes.

Only two league starts this season for Van de Beek, who has struggled to make an impact since joining from Ajax in 2020, and it’s likely that he will leave the team.

Tielemans would make a great replacement since, without costing a fortune, he makes more tackles per game (2.1 to 0), interceptions per game (0.8 to 0.1), passes per game (51.9 to 8.4), and opportunities generated per game (1.0 to 0.4).

Van van Beek’s lack of form, fitness, and playing time this season makes it unclear how many clubs would rush to sign him, but Tielemans should be thought of as his replacement.

A transfer benefits everyone involved, and the Belgian international would undoubtedly leap at the chance to join a top-four Premier League team as well.
