Gonçalo Inácio has been linked to a couple Premier League clubs recently as a result of his outstanding season at Sporting.

His departure from the Lions at the end of the season seems increasingly likely, with Manchester United and Newcastle United among the English teams rumored to be interested in him.

The player’s position is covered in today’s issue of daily O Jogo, and it is revealed that Inácio truly has a preference for his future.

First, it is asserted that Sporting are finding it difficult to extend the contract of the 21-year-old. To feel more secure about his sale, they want to increase his €45 million release clause to between €50 and €80 million, but an agreement is still far from being achieved.

The issue is that the athlete truly wants to sign with a “major European club,” which is why English teams are brought up. When Newcastle came after him, he allegedly expressed “no interest” in the idea since he is “sure” of a bigger move.

Remembering that he had previously been linked to Manchester United, where his passing skills may make him Lisandro Martinez’s backup, O Jogo says that prospect now matches his goals better and adds that the Red Devils are still “attentive” to him.
Sporting will exert all reasonable efforts to secure that contract extension in order to prevent Inácio from leaving for merely €45 million. They want things finished as quickly as possible because they are worried that teams like Manchester United and Newcastle may arrive in the summer.
