For the upcoming summer transfer window, Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing RSC Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

The Red Devils acquired a new goalkeeper in January when they agreed to a loan agreement with Jack Butland that would last through the conclusion of the current campaign following Dean Henderson’s departure from Old Trafford during the previous summer’s transfer window.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly already set his sights on signing another goalkeeper to a permanent contract as the upcoming summer transfer window draws near.

Ten Hag and fellow Premier League club Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Verbruggen this summer, according to a recent report from Het Laatste Nieuws (via Sport Witness).

Having progressed through NAC Breda’s development systems, the 20-year-old joined Anderlecht during the summer 2020 transfer window.

Before to their league encounter against OH Leuven, the Dutchman had made 24 senior appearances for his current club across all competitions since that time, recording seven clean sheets.

The goalie has faced 56 shots on goal in his 12 league games this season and has stopped 43 of them, giving him the highest save percentage (76.8%) in the division.

He is the third-highest rated player at Anderlecht according to his overall achievements in the Belgian division, which have earned the shot-stopper a season rating of 6.98/10 from WhoScored.

In addition to that, his recent performance in Anderlecht’s 1-0 win over Villarreal in the Europa League, during which he made nine saves and earned himself an overall match rating of 9.5/10 from SofaScore, was characterized as “excellent” by goalie coach David Preece.

Given that David De Gea’s current United contract is slated to expire this summer, signing Verbruggen might provide the team with the ideal long-term replacement for the Spanish goalkeeper should he decide to leave in the near future.

Moving forward, we believe that the Red Devils should use all of their resources to outbid Liverpool this summer for the services of the Anderlecht star because, given his talent, he might prove to be an important member of the team in the long run.
