Man Utd star Casemiro at risk of another suspension after Southampton red card

Only days after receiving a red card against Southampton, Casemiro, a standout for Manchester United, is in danger of receiving another suspension.

After a heavy challenge on Saints player Carlos Alcaraz during Sunday’s 0-0 draw between the two teams at Old Trafford, the Brazilian was given the boot.

Anthony Taylor, the referee, had initially given him a booking, but after reviewing the situation via VAR, converted it to a red card. The club has said that they would not file an appeal.

Having already received a red card during United’s 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace last month, Casemiro will now miss the next four games.

It’s been a while since I’ve been this excited about a book.

He will, however, be accessible for the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 matchup on Thursday against Real Betis.

Casemiro can face another suspension.

If Casemiro is cautioned against Betis, he might be facing yet another suspension.

That’s because he’s already received two cautions in the Europa League this year, and a third will result in an automatic one-match suspension.

If United advances and Casemiro obtains a booking against Betis on Thursday, the first leg of their last-eight match will not be played due to the yellow card amnesty, which was implemented prior to the quarterfinals.

The Brazilian will therefore miss the next five Red Devils games if he receives a caution.

Since November 2021, a stretch of 52 games, he is the sole United player to have been dismissed in a Premier League match.

Manager Erik ten Hag explained the choice in his post-game remarks (via United’s official website): “That is contradictory. The referees arrive at the beginning of the season with the following policy: “We are the Premier League, we want intensity,” and “Casemiro,” who has played in almost 500 European games, has now been sent off twice.

“He is fair yet plays tough. It’s extremely controversial, much as with Crystal Palace. That looks horrible when frozen [in Sunday’s challenge].

“Everyone who is familiar with the game of football is aware of what is good and what is fair, and Casemiro is a fair player. Fair and firm, and it shows. He played in over 500 big league games without receiving a warning. He is dissatisfied.”
