Bruno Fernandes, a midfielder for Manchester United, gave an outstanding performance during the team’s comfortable 4-1 victory over Real Betis Friday night in the Europa League.

On Sunday, numerous supporters criticized the Portugal international for his lackluster performance in Liverpool’s 7-0 defeat. Yesterday, he gave the ideal answer.

At Anfield, Fernandes failed to make much of an impression from the left side of the attack, so it was no surprise that manager Erik ten Hag chose to start him in his favoured number 10 position.

With one goal and one assist, the Red Devils captain put on an impressive performance. He was also indirectly responsible for Marcus Rashford’s brilliant first goal.

Fernandes contributed to one goal and had 97 touches with 54 correct passes. He won seven duels and 100% of his take-ons (3/3) while contributing five crucial passes in the final third.

Ten Hag was expected to make significant lineup adjustments following United’s humiliation at Anfield, but unexpectedly, the Dutchman stuck with the same starting lineup against Betis.

The Red Devils had a mixed first half with several scoring opportunities missed, but the second half was much better with goals from Antony, Fernandes, and Wout Weghorst.

The fact that all four of United’s forwards scored against Betis at Old Trafford should please the boss. The team now needs to match its performance against Southampton on Sunday.

In their penultimate Premier League matchup before the break, the Red Devils host the Saints. Ten Hag will be looking for nothing less than a victory as United attempts to lock up a top-four position.

The second leg of United’s Europa League round of 16 match against Betis will be played on the road the following week, followed by a home FA Cup quarterfinal against Fulham. Following the international break, they will be traveling to Newcastle.
