Jack Butland to undergo Man United medical today ahead of loan
Jack Butland is all set for his Man United medical today, ahead of a proposed loan to the club.
Manchester United lost Martin Dubravka back to Newcastle United on the first of the month, hinting that the Magpies haven’t been happy with the Reds’ usage of the shot-stopper.
Suddenly, that left United with a hole to fill. Erik ten Hag clearly never fancied Tom Heaton as a number two, meaning the Dutchman had to go searching for a new back-up goalkeeper for the rest of the term.
Jack Butland was the talk of the town yesterday, with the Englishman regarded as someone who could come in and do a job for the next six months.
Now, according to The Athletic, that deal is seemingly close.
Apparently, a deal has been agreed and Butland is due to undergo his medical today, ahead of the 29-year-old joining United on loan until the end of the term.
The gaffer wanted another number two after losing the aforementioned Dubravka, with Butland, who is currently a back-up at Crystal Palace, more than willing to come to Old Trafford and sit in behind De Gea.
Butland, 29, had an impressive start to his footballing career, though that early promise quickly fizzled out. Once talked up as a potential England number one, Butland is more than capable of coming in and doing a decent job for Ten Hag.
However, United fans should have low expectations. There’s a good chance that Butland doesn’t see much action, purely due to the fact that he’s probably waiting on an injury to De Gea to get himself out on the field.
Perhaps a cup game here or there is as good as it’ll get, so just keep that in mind.
