£19.5million-a-year star ready to agree fresh terms with Manchester United

Manchester United signed David De Gea back in 2011 when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the club.

Since then, the Spanish international has been the first choice goalie at Old Trafford and he is the highest earning shot stopper in the world.

The La Furia Roja star has won the Matt Busby Player of the Year trophy for a record four times but he last won it back in 2018.

In 2019, he was rewarded with a bumper contract worth £375,000 a week i.e. £19.5million-a-year and the deal is due to expire in six months.

As per The Daily Telegraph, De Gea is ready to agree fresh terms with Manchester United to extend his stay at the club.

The renowned British news source have mentioned that the former Atletico Madrid man is even willing to accept a pay cut.

United do have an option to extend his deal for a further year but do not intend to exercise it and are instead in talks to agree a new contract. On finishing his career at Man United, the 32-year-old said:

“I hope so. I was saying this is my club, I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here.”

In the past few years, De Gea has not been at his best and has cost us a lot with his blunders. Due to inconsistent performances at club level, he was bench warmer at the European Championships and was not even part of the Spain squad at the FIFA World Cup.

As per reports, the Red Devils are linked with Portuguese goal keeper, Diogo Costa. In your view, should Man Utd extend De Gea’s stay or sign a new shot stopper?
