Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram is ready to turn down offers from Aston Villa and Newcastle United, to join Manchester United instead.
That’s according ti Bild, whi say the Frenchman
only wants to join ‘one of the four dream clubs’ on his list; Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Paris St. Germain.
The newspaper explains that up to this point, everything has spoken in favour of Thuram moving in the January transfer window and bringing Borussia around €12m in fees.
However, the situation may now be about to change as both the player and the German club are‘rethinking’ the situation.
Borussia, for their part, are working out the numbers as a possible qualification for the Europa League would mean at least €10m and then whatever they get in the competition next year. Eintracht Frankfurt, for example, won it and ended up with €22.5m.
Thus, a sale of Thuram, who would be a significant aid in the race to qualify, would be ‘quite senseless’as it would jeopardise the run for Europe.
Thuram is also thinking hard about the situation and has ‘two clear wishes’. One of those is that he moves this month but only for one of his dream clubs; Inter, Bayern, Manchester United or PSG.
In contrast, Newcastle United and Aston Villa, who are also strongly interested in him, ‘can save their bids’ as they are not considered prestigious enough by the player.
Thuram also wants to become the top goalscorer in the Bundesliga. He has ten goals so far and is within striking distance of Nkunku, who is on 12 in total.
If he could finish as top goalscorer, he would be able to get a much better contract with a top European club at the end of the season.
For the time being, though, it seems Manchester United are the only ones with a chance, as the forward has already ruled out the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle.
