Manchester United could have to pay “upwards of £200m” if they want to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.
The France international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, and Jones has suggested that he could cost over £200m if Jude Bellingham is going for £130m.
Man United transfer news – Kylian Mbappe
Last month, the Daily Mirror claimed that Mbappe has emerged as a shock target for United as they look to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
The same outlet has also suggested that it could cost over £150m to sign the 24-year-old.
Erik ten Hag has made it clear that he wants to sign a new striker but only if the “right one” is available.
“We are aware we lost a striker, so I think we have to get a striker in, but it has to be the right one,” the United boss recently told Sky Sports and other outlets. “The right one is a player that brings quality to the team, not just adding to the squad because that only gives you problems.”
What has Dean Jones said about Kylian Mbappe and Man United?
Jones thinks it is going to take significantly more than £150m if United want to sign “game-changing” Mbappe.
Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Someone who’s just scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final, it’s the look of a £200m footballer. There’s no doubt about it.
“You hear at the moment Jude Bellingham being talked about as perhaps a £130m footballer, use that as a marker if you like for Mbappe, who is the ultimate game-changing forward. So it’ll be upwards of £200m from that standpoint
He finished as the top scorer in Qatar, netting an incredible eight times in just seven appearances, as per BBC Sport. That, of course, includes his hat-trick in the final against Messi’s Argentina. On another day, his performance in the game probably would have won France the trophy.
