Player’hasn’t changed mind’on Man United, still keen on joining

Cody Gakpo still wants to join Man United when the opportunity arises.

Manchester United Football Club would have signed both Antony and Cody Gakpo if it was a possibility during the summer. Though rising costs for the former meant a move for the latter had to be placed on the back burner.

Antony has been a hit, there’s no denying that. Though the gaffer ideally wanted both players through the doors in August.

Cody Gakpo’s stock has only risen over the last few months. Couple his excellent PSV Eindhoven performances with a stellar showing over in Qatar, the Dutchman is an ever-improving football player.

United’s stance, judging by all the transfer talk over the least week or so, hasn’t wavered. Thankfully, Gakpo is just as interested in the move.

It’s Fabrizio Romano with the latest information. He says that the player’s mind ‘hasn’t changed’ and he’s still keen on joining United. To add to that, discussions with his agent have ‘always been positive’.

It always felt like the only thing that could scupper a United move for Gakpo would be rising costs due to his performances. After spending so big over the summer, I doubted whether the Glazer family, who are looking to sell the club, would be willing to invest further finances into the situation.

Romano reckons it’s now going to take around £50m to get the Gakpo deal done – which obviously is a large amount of money.

Hopefully, the Glazer’s do go out on a high by giving us one final top-quality transfer target – it’s what Ten Hag needs after losing Cristiano Ronaldo not too long ago.
